The Genesis Experience is a Genesis tribute band, based in Ontario, Canada.
They bring to life the art and timeless hits of both the
Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins eras with technical proficiency and passion.
Their faithful attention to detail
captures the amazing live Genesis experience that filled theatres,
arenas, and stadiums around the world.
James Hastings
Lead Vocals
James R. Hastings is a professional vocalist, songwriter
and guitarist. Born and raised in the Eastern Townships
of Quebec, Canada, James currently resides with his wife
and daughters in Elora, Ontario.
James’ earliest singing moments were jumping on the bed
with a hairbrush microphone singing along to his mother’s
Journey eight tracks.
He, with his father and two older brothers, played the guitar
and sang around the campfire and kitchen table. But it was
James’ uncle Paul Hastings, a talented musician who tragically
drowned at the age of 17, who most influenced his desire to
further his musical endeavors.
James studied Classical Voice at the Maritime Conservatory
of Performing Arts in Halifax, Nova Scotia, under the instruction
of Jason Parkhill. He gained performance experience in community
theatre and small bands and spent five years performing with the
Grafton Street Dinner Theatre.
Ultimately he dreams of quitting his day job to focus on singing
as a full-time career.
Doug Chase
Piano / Keyboards / Hammond
Doug has been playing keyboards almost his whole life. He studied
classical piano at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto garnering his
grade 10. Then he went on the University of Regina to graduate with
Distinction in Performance on Piano with a minor in composition.
He has won performance and composition competitions including a
CBC debut.
He has studied classical piano with several teachers. He started lessons
with him piano teacher mother, but quickly started with Shirlene Wilson
while completing the lower conservatory grades. At university, he studied
with William Moore, student of Rosina Lhevinne at Julliard and
Thomas Manshardt, student of the great French pianist, Alfred Cortot.
He had the privilege of taking jazz workshops with Frank Mantooth,
Don Thompson and even bought Doug Riley's L100 and studied jazz briefly
at Humber College.
As a professional musician, he has recorded with Double Juno award winner
Derek Miller, opened for Shania Twain, The Black Crowes with Stone River in
front of 20,000 people, the currently unpopular Bill Cosby and Aaron Lines
to name but a few.
Doug has been the keyboard player for country and other genre artists too.
He has performed shows with Canadian country artist Drake Jensen for shows
in Ottawa, Nashville, Dallas, Toronto and a tour of the East Coast of Canada.
He helped record several of Drake’s cds which included the song
Wherever Love Takes Us, which hit top 30 in Australia in 2018. He has performed
with Barrie based Cathy Korpi, with festival shows all across Ontario and for radio
charting smooth jazz artist Coldjack featuring John Fraser. He plays in the only
Canadian Boston Tribute 'Hitch a Ride', and the Shania Twain Tribute ShaniaLive.
He has done session work at Number Nine, Comfort Sound, and studios in Barrie
and Oshawa. His heart, though, lies in Progressive rock and is humbled to be at the
piano bench for the great Genesis music.
Bob Wegner
Guitar
Bob is a professional musician who can't remember the last time he paid to stay
in a hotel room.
In 2006 he was selected by Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor to play guitar in his
first of many incarnations of the We Will Rock You musical.
He has since done many tours with Classic Albums Live, and has spent much of the
last few years playing solo acoustic guitar shows both on dry land and on cruise ships.
His debut solo album "Changing Of The Guard" was released in 2017, and comprises
of 12 tracks with influences spanning from baroque to 1960s British folk.
He is also a member of the eclectic folk trio Euphonic, whose self-titled debut album
dropped in 2018.
His playing has been heard on ad jingles, and in films such as In Saturn's Rings and the
award-winning Touch.
Also a music historian, he is credited as "photo archivist" in the Max Webster box set "The Party".
Tom Nagy
Bass Guitar / Taurus Pedals
Tom Nagy has performed all across Canada, appearing with Genesis tribute group The Genesis Experience,
Mahavishnu Orchestra tribute group Vital Transformation, international blues sensation The Gary Cain Band, Boston tribute group
Hitch A Ride, and with his own jazz quintet.
He is a graduate of Humber College’s world-class music program, where he also served as
Assistant Engineer in the Humber recording studio.
Tom is the Technical Director of K-W’s top live jazz venue, The Jazz Room, and composes soundtracks for television and film projects.
Tom plays Lakland basses, and is a Featured Artist for Schroeder Cabinets.
John Walker
Drums / Percussion
John started playing the drums when he was 10 years old.
He performed with various drum and bugle corps on the snare drum, spending his last few years
with the Dutch Boy Drum and Bugle Corps based out of Kitchener, ON. During this time, John worked
on his drum set skills while performing with various rock and stage bands.
